First Stop Darlington is a local charity which was established in 1999 and it has been assisting people since its inception. It was founded by concerned clergy members who noticed a rise in rough sleepers within Darlington. Collaborating with Darlington Housing Action Group, they created First Stop. This initiative aided individuals without housing by directing them to crucial services and providing warmth, refreshments, showers, and laundry facilities.

Since those early days, First Stop Darlington has evolved significantly. It is now  a skilled advice centre which supports  anyone facing obstacles that hinder their progress in life, including: poverty; low-level debt; unemployment; mental wellbeing including low self-esteem, anxiety, depressions & stress; family breakdowns, splitting claims etc; benefit advice and applications; IT help and support and various other issues designed to assist people to enjoy a happier lifestyle.
