Firststop Darlington © 2015
We at First Stop work closely with young people who may be at risk of homelessness, often mediating with parents and family members to ensure the young person has explored all options before moving forward.
First Stop will also assess, refer, and liaise with housing providers for our clients. We support young people to access benefits, employment, education, and training facilities, enabling the learning and development of new skills and knowledge which can have a positive and direct effect on young people considered to be disadvantaged and excluded.
First Stop arranges activities, such as monthly football sessions (involving other agencies), to foster social inclusion in groups and on a one-to-one basis. First Stop also has a music programme designed for young people to address issues and experiences by learning new skills in guitar playing and song writing.
We provide a drop-in appointment based floating support service for young people, encouraging clients to engage with services and attend appointments. A referral service is also available to offer a route into supported accommodation and drug and alcohol services as well as weekly homeless drop-in sessions at Queen Elizabeth and Darlington Colleges. First Stop also attends primary schools, secondary schools, and colleges to deliver homeless awareness talks.
